Johnny Winter Live In Concert Copenhagen, Denmark (1970)

The bluesman Johnny Winter has died Thursday at age 70 in Zurich (Switzerland), as announced by Jenda Darringer, wife of his bandmate Rick Darringer. "Johnny died early this morning in Zurich. I was not in good health and was very frail and weak," Jenda Darringer wrote in a post on Facebook, collected by American Blues Scene.
Born in Beaumont (Texas, USA) in 1944, Winter was one of the most respected singers and guitarists of the international rock scene, located between blues rock and American Southern rock. His first major success came in 1968 after opening a concert for Mike Bloomfield. There he caught the attention of Columbia Records executive who quickly signed him to the label giving an advance of $ 600,000. His years of greatest popularity occurred during the decades of the seventies and eighties, a time during which inclusó helped the careers of his idols Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker, as recalled by the Blabbermouth.com website. He published twenty albums and was nominated for the Grammy Awards on 7 occasions.
It has also been pointed out as the 63 greatest guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone. Winter has remained active until the last moment acting around the world, visiting Spain regularly. In fact, last May acted in Bilbao, Madrid, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. In addition, planned to release a new album in September entitled 'Step Back'.
