Alabama Shakes - New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (2014)

Alabama Shakes is a rock band formed by Brittany Howard on vocals and guitar , Zac Cockrell on bass, Heath Fogg on guitar and Steve Johnson on drums. The group was formed in 2009 under the name of The Shakes to dry. Later added the word Alabama in reference to the state where the group originated and to differentiate themselves from other bands bearing the same name.
Alabama Shakes born when Howard and Cockrell , who went to the same school, began to gather after school to compose together. At the time , drummer Steve Johnson joined the band, as a trio , they recorded some of the songs they had written.
When guitarist Heath Fogg heard the demo did not hesitate to join the group . And it was made the final line up of Alabama Shakes. At that time , Brittany Howard worked as a portfolio , dealing cards door to door in his native Athens and Zac Cockrell was a veterinary technician and Heath Fogg made his living painting houses . Perhaps the most attractive job was Steve Johnson in the local record store . Surely, in those initial moments , not imagined that just over a year later would be the talk of the music media.
