he Doobie Brothers is an American rock band, formed in 1970 by Johnston, John Hartman and bassist Greg Murph, who was later replaced by Dave Shogren; all California. In the following year, and transformed into quintet (with Trian Porter and drummer Mike Hossack), they released their first LP Doobie Brothers. The sound they made was a style country rock, with some tendency toward gospel and the use of wind instruments.
In 1972, the LP Toulouse Street (with the single "Listen To The Music") won the first gold record, it would be a constant in the race together thereafter.
In 1974, they were joined by guitarist Jeff Baxter and later keyboardist Michael McDonald, the latter incorporating elements of soul music. In 1978, they won four Grammy awards. In the following year, John Hartman, one of the founders of the formation, leaving the group and guitarist Jeff Baxter.
